Because of the COVID situation, Solidays in 2021 as we originally know it was one of the first festivals to cancel in France. The event should have taken place from 18 to 20 June 2021. Instead, there will be a special edition this year. On 4 July, there will be a replacement, "unexpected, free and reserved to women and men that work in the health sector. About ten artists are expected".
Big events like ceremonies are the occasion to discover new artists and expect them at festivals. The Brit Awards are a good example, but France also has their own ceremonies. On 12 February, France celebrates the Victoires de la Musique, which might present new revelations.
On Thursday 18 February, Roselyne Bachelot, Minister of Culture, made her decision. Festivals in France will take place this summer, but in a whole different format and concept. Some of the events, like the Vieilles Charrues, already made some decisions to change their format. Some other ones, like Hellfest, had to cancel.
On Wednesday, 27 January, Solidays releases their first names for the edition to come. Some of the artists announced last years are back again. Therefore, Solidays comes with bad news: even though they want to believe the festival will happen, they realize that there is a possibility for the event to be cancelled.
France & 2020 were not a great combination. The country suffered badly from the pandemic this year, and as a result festivals were cancelled. Now, however, the optimism is back. All eyes are on next year. French festivals strongly believe the festival summer of 2021 will take place.
