Glastonbury Highlights: Foo Fighters perform tiny gig in Frome in 2017

As the world copes with the coronavirus pandemic, it’s a good time to relive the historic music memory. Today, we take a closer look at Glastonbury 2017 with the unusual Foo Fighters announcement as a headliner.

In June 2015, singer Dave Grohl fell off the stage and fractured his leg during the band’s concert in Gothenburg, Sweden. Due the injury, Foo Fighters had to cancel their following European tour, including Glastonbury Festival 2015. Florence and the Machine kindly replaced the band. During the set, Florence performed a cover of Foo Fighters’ ‘Times Like These’.

The band decided to come back to the English festival two years later. Foo Fighters is known for their extraordinary ideas. This time, the group organized a small concert in Frome, for which they selected most of the audience from their fan mailing list in a 50 mile radius of Frome. A hundred lucky fans that had assembled outside the venue were also allowed in on the night.

A Mysterious Campaign

The band created a big mysterious campaign, which involved sending boarding passes as tickets. They confirmed the venue only a day before the show.

Foo Fighters played an intimate two and a half hour show to an appreciative crowd of 650 people. The Cheese and Grain in Frome is the South West’s leading venue for live music and events. The main hall has a capacity of 850 people. The band and Glastonbury organizers especially selected The Cheese and Grain as they did not want to play a big city venue.

The concert was part of the Obelisk Airlines event, and was streamed live from Frome. Foo Fighters had confirmed that the group will be headlining the 2017 Glastonbury Festival. “Saint Cecilia”, “Generator”, and “Feast and the Famine” were on the setlist but weren’t played. “Wattershed”, “Big Me”, “For All the Cows”, and “Enough Space” weren’t on the setlist.

Glastonbury 2017

The 2017 Glastonbury Festival took place between 21 and 25 June 2017. This edition gathered over a 135,000 attendees. At the festival performed such stars as Radiohead, Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher, Katy Perry and Dua Lipa. During the Kris Kristofferson’s set actor Bradley Cooper, director and star of the film A Star Is Born, filmed a four-minute segment of his film on the Pyramid Stage.
