In four weeks time, VOLT Festival 2018 starts in Sopron, Hungary. As the date is approaching quickly, we have gathered five reasons why you should definitely consider going to VOLT this year!
1. The lineup

This year, VOLT has an extremely strong lineup both on international and national levels. Headlining acts include Depeche Mode, Iron Maiden, Steve Aoki and Avenged Sevenfold, and on the international front you also find Limp Bizkit, Hurts, Hollywood Undead, Skillet, The Kills, Redfoo, X Ambassadors, Alan Walker and Rudimental. To all these amazing acts several Hungarian groups are added as well. As you can see, all kinds of music genres are represented during the festival, so you can definitely find something to suit your taste, while you also have the chance to explore something new. 2. Support for upcoming artists
It is not just the diversity in different genres that makes VOLT’s lineup extremely interesting, but also the fact that several Hungarian groups, who are on their rise to fame and popularity, were given the chance to take part in NAGY-SZÍN-PAD! 2018 competition (Main Stage 2018 competition), to win a slot on the main stage and share their music with the audience of VOLT on 27 June. This year, the winner of NAGY-SZÍN-PAD! is stoner doom/sludge metal act Apey and the Pea. However, other bands who entered the competition were given slots at LG Fullvision stage, the Sopron stage, and the Posta terrace. These groups are definitely worth checking out before headlining acts take the stages!
3. Extra activities

During the day, there are several other activities you can do at the festival area. At Diákhitel Cafe there is detox yoga every day at noon, so you can recover from the previous evening while staying in shape! At Magenta 1 stage the Football World Championship will be broadcasted, and there will be talks as well with several Hungarian bands. For the full program offered on these stages see the schedule.
4. Sopron

Apart from hosting VOLT Festival, the city of Sopron has more to offer. Sopron has the second-highest number of monuments in Hungary, including several historical monuments like the Firewatch Tower and the Town Hall, churches, synagogues, statues, parks and squares, such as Deák Square, which is the second longest square in Central Europe. It is not just the number of monuments that prove the city is rich in history: Sopron is considered the “most loyal city” (Civitas Fidelissima) in Hungary. The story is that after the peace treaty of Trianon, there was a referendum in Sopron in 1921, in which the citizens of Sopron decided whether they belonged to Hungary or Austria. Plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants offer an insight into Hungarian cuisine, something definitely worth exploring while you are in Hungary! The city centre is easy to approach by foot from the festival area, and shuttle buses will be provided as well. For more information about tourism in Sopron, click here. There is also a list about what to do and see in Sopron on VOLT’s official website, which you can find here.
5. It is organized by Sziget Crew

VOLT is managed by Sziget Cultural Management Ltd, meaning they provide the same quality at the festival as what you experience at Sziget, but on the level of a medium size festival. In 2015, VOLT was awarded ‘Best Medium Sized Festival’ at the European Festival Awards, while Sziget won ‘Best Lineup’ that year and in 2017. The Sziget Crew provides excellence at all of its festivals, and VOLT Festival will meet your expectations as well!
